WHAT IS YOUR IDEA/PROJECT IN MORE DETAIL?

:

To provide digital training and content creation tools via community-based workshops and online learning to emerging voices and storytellers in diverse and underrepresented LA communities. NALIP and its proposed partners would provide access to established community-based content creators working in film, TV, documentaries and new media.

WHAT WILL YOU DO TO IMPLEMENT THIS IDEA/PROJECT?

:

ALIP will target women and minorities with an emphasis on emerging Latino content creators in LA communities traditionally under-served by professional mentoring and information. NALIP will organize four community-based in Los Angeles and ten online digital content development workshops benefitting Angelenos.The content creators in this program will be encouraged to produce media that reflect their experiences, and tell the stories. Digitize LA will support individual media artist’s projects with skills instruction, relationship building, and artist mentoring. Digitize LA mentors would be LA-based professionals as well as nationally and internationally recognized media makers. Through Digitize LA, NALIP will build alliances and partnerships between local arts and cultural organizations, and amongst the local nonprofits and content creators.

In order to stay competitive in the global market, Los Angeles must invest in and professionally develop its most underserved creative community, Latinos.

Los Angeles-based women and minorities with an emphasis on Latino content creators. Digitize LA will support LA-based content creators to develop their professional skills, create original and viable content and most important increase their employability and access to funding, content buyers, studios and talent recruiters.

Digitize LA will provide professional digital training and mentorship for minorities, women and low income communities and increase their ability to obtain jobs in the entertainment industry.

MiTu, YouTube, NationBuilder and Social Mosaic are not yet confirmed as partners for Digitize LA but have recently collaborated in our Los Angeles-based Media Summit.

MiTu, Inc., a Los Angeles-based lifestyle YouTube network, presents lifestyle programming for connected Latino audience in English and Spanish. Its network features and distributes various short lifestyle videos and real-life Latino video-makers worldwide through YouTube.

YouTube is a video-sharing website headquartered in California.

NationBuilder, a Los Angeles-based company, is a community organizing system. Software platform that offers easy-to-update website, a people database, and communication tool.

Social Mosaic, a Los Angeles-based company, digital agency with integrated digital marketing, social media, Web design development.

NationBuilder and Social Mosaic will help NALIP develop and perfect the technology and audience engagement tools to better serve Digitize LA participants.

MiTu will provide space and access to their development executives to serve as mentors and possible buyer of participants' content.

NALIP will be using 5 key metrics to evaluate success of Digitize LA:

1. Quantitative: Number of Attendees at four of the community-based and ten of the online digital workshops.

2. Quantitative: Number of digital projects developed, mentored, produced and distributed via Digitize LA.

3. Quantitative: Number of introductions and or connections through Digitize LA, workshop participation and subsequent participant follow-up.

4. Qualitative: Surveying participants and mentors with detailed feedback opportunity via an online dedicated form to evaluate the quality of the workshops and on-going mentoring.

5. Impact and Reach report - included in our Digitize LA post evaluation will be an impact and participant reach report to assess the overall efficiency of the program.

WHAT TWO LESSONS HAVE INFORMED YOUR SOLUTION OR PROJECT?

:

1. The need for underserved communities to develop skills and original content which happens to be in demand at the moment.

EXPLAIN HOW IMPLEMENTING YOUR PROJECT WITHIN THE NEXT TWELVE MONTHS IS AN ACHIEVABLE GOAL.

NALIP has had a solid track record of developing, executing and evaluating empowerment programs. For the last fifteen years, NALIP has had success holding fourteen National Conferences, plus six other National Initiatives: a Latino Writer's Lab™, a Latino Producers Academy™ and a published/on-line Latino Media Resource Guide™, our"Doing your Doc: Diverse Visions, Regional Voices" documentary development workshops plus the Latino Media Market™ held during our National Conference and the Latino Artist Mentoring Program. We are now fundraising to support and expand these programs in 2014, plus solidify the infrastructure of our organization to better serve our community. NALIP has the plan, infrastructure, partnerships to successfully carry out Digitize LA. We are currently in discussion with our proposed partners on how the project could be expanded beyond the initial year and become a permanent development track for NALIP.
